My parents go away on this christian camp every year between December 26th and January 2nd. Last year, I thought I’d do something different for new years & decided to go along with them to Queensland (it’s held in different cities in Australia every year).
I’ve been pressured to follow christianity all my life & for the first time in my life, I decided to learn more about it on my own free will. 8 months later, I can’t say I was moved by it all & I believe in a god now but the trip was a very good thing for me: I met some amazing people there.
Another reason why I went was because it was a Russian camp & I was at that point in my life where I wanted to get in touch with people of my own nationality. I met a handful of guys from Melbourne around my age, 2 girls from Queensland & 2 others from Adelaide & 1 amazing girl from California, who was visiting a friend in Melbourne.
I didn’t expect to meet so many people that have changed my life for the better, but in particular, 2 of them stood out the most.
Mark & Tanya. Mark is from Melbourne & Tanya is his friend that was visiting from California. I got along with these two so well & 8 months later, we still talk on a regular basis.
When I went to Melbourne in January, after Queensland & after my trip to New Zealand, Mark showed me around, took me out, let me stay the night & dropped me off at the airport at 5am in the morn.
It’s so rare to meet such kind & generous people & I’m so glad I’ve met him. And although Tanya is back in LA, working for her fashion label (currently all around the world for fashion week), I’m sure our paths will cross one day soon.
My trip back to California is long overdue!
