Working from home.

What my coffee table looks like

Growing up, I’ve always thought working from home would be a fantastic idea, especially if I had kids. I’ve always been a deadline kind of girl as in, I do things in due date order (I will admit to procrastinating often though).

Today, I wasn’t feeling well after a doctors visit in the morning so I popped into the office on my way home and picked up a few files and my laptop. I thought I’d be able to do some work plus get started on my uni reading but it’s now 3:44pm and I’m afraid to say I haven’t done much!

I’ve managed to prepare lunch, put the washing out and vacuum the bedrooms (I had an ant problem) but every time I go near the work laptop, something pulls me away. Okay so I’ve done a bit of work but not nearly as much as I thought.

I honestly do have the mentality that I need to break up my time into work and personal but today, it’s not working for me. I’ll probably be up until midnight doing work because no matter how much I slack during the day, I cannot let a days work roll onto the next but….does anyone else have this problem with discpline?

Or is today a total cannot-be-fudged day?

Good News Wednesday

K, myself, Z & S in 2007

myself, K, Z & S in 2011

One of my best friends, Z, moved to Melbourne just last month and yesterday, I got news that K is also making the move across the ditch in June.

Melbourne is like my 2nd home (after Auckland, NZ) so hearing that another one of my best friends is moving over makes me VERY happy. I love Melbourne and have thought about making the move myself a dozen or so times but at the end of the day, there’s too many things holding me back in Perth.

So for now, I’ll just wait until July when I can head over to Melbourne next. It’ll be S & Z’s birthday mid- July. The four of us together? Sounds dangerous!

Guys with WordPress: Have you ever clicked on any of those blogs on the homepage?

I guess it was out of boredom the other day but I discovered this amazing blog by Zack, an American entrepreneur living in Buenos Aires.

I am completely hooked on his writing and tips and most importantly, this latest blog post, “8 Simple Philosophies That Changed My Life”

If there’s one thing you should do today, it is to subscribe to his blogs.

Lazy Sundays;

It’s been so long since I’ve had a day with no plans. Working full time during the week, Saturday nights and soon, studying with the majority of my free time, these days are going to be very rare if likely until end of semester in June.

So I’m making the most of it and catching up with reading blogs, magazines, calling friends in NZ and updating my private blog. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and writing things down is the only thing that helps…oh and walks along the beach.

Lazy days, oh how I love them.

Valentine’s Day;

Heart shaped pizza from my favourite place, Hero’s Pizza

I’ve never been one that loved Valentine’s Day. I think it’s tacky to buy flowers and chocolates on a day that the rest of the world does too. Since I’ve only recently gotten into a relationship, it was a little early to state my hate for the hallmark day but my boy did well. He got me hand picked flowers and a seagull card (I own a dozen or so bird dresses he thinks look like seagulls). Turns out, he doesn’t like Valentine’s Day either so phew!

We did something low key though. We got pizza and ate it by the river……with a million other couples, literally¬†2 metres apart.

I think in future, Valentine’s Day should be spent at home. Way too many couples out in public for my liking!

What did everyone else do for Valentine’s Day?

I went to the beach after work on Friday with the boyfriend, M and we had a nice cold cider at (one) of my favourite places, Black Salt juuuust as the sun was setting.

I went shopping on Saturday and bought a bobble, a water bottle that filters as you drink, purchase inspired by Melinda’s review on it here.

It was my half brother Max’s birthday that day so I got him this witty card, filled with money…..awesome card or what?

Lunch was salmon, mashed potato, russian winter salad and sides of tomato with garlic and slices of beetroot…my favourite!

I then rolled to the car and had a nap when I got home. I keep getting into the terrible habit of eating myself into a coma everytime I visit my parents….must stop doing that asap!

The rest of the weekend includes working until 4am this morning (yawn), beach walks with K in the afternoon and chats with housemate K Mac.

What did everyone else get up to?

There’s been quite a few new and exciting changes in my life lately…

Firstly, I got a second job, helping my friend out behind the bar on Saturday nights. They play punk rock, stuff I grew up listening to in high school and they serve drinks in big red cups like in the U.S.

Secondly, I got my hair cut and coloured. It’s been two years since I’ve had a short bob so I thought it was about time I did it again. It’s been a refreshing change and I don’t feel so boring always putting my hair up in a ponytail now…..I can’t quite do that anymore!

And thirdly, I have a boyfriend! I won’t say too much about it because it’s all fairly new. But it’s exciting and I’m totally smitten.

I promise a proper update soon.
