On Thursday night, I completed my last exam for the semester & I can’t express how much lighter I feel now. There’s a few things I wish I had done differently (like take March a little more seriously and take some time off during study week) but it’s all in the past now & here’s to one more semester at uni! That thought still hasn’t sunk in yet & it probably won’t until I get my results back in a few weeks but still a crazy thought none the less!
What have I been up to post exams? Treating myself to all sorts of chocolate, my favourite pizza (chicken and avocado with caesar sauce), skype chats with big sis, personal training with K.S followed by walks around Fremantle & lunch at Bib & Tucker (above view- can you believe it’s the middle of winter here?), river walks with M where there was a lot of Cali dreaming going on & enjoying a lovely Saturday night in watching cheesy Zac Efron movies & catching up on emails & blog posts.
What’s in store for the next five weeks? Oh you can bet it’s going to be an action packed five weeks!
What if you could wake up & see the weather forecast and temperature as you looked outside? Or take a photo by tapping the side of your glasses?
I don’t know about you, but this makes me excited beyond words!

Last night, I went to The Cabin in Mount Hawthorn for K’s engagement party (a friend who’s also asked me to be a bridesmaid!!). I haven’t been back to The Cabin since K’s birthday in 2009 and I’m really not sure why. Not only do they have the best mulled wine in town, served in the perfect sized stemless round wine glass, they have the heaters on high, creating the perfect atmosphere for a cosy dinner or drinks with some friends. And the brick work? Heaven on earth for this exposed brick wall obsessed girl!
Last night crept up on me out of nowhere though. After focusing so much energy on my finance exam on Tuesday night & then spending every night finishing my biggest assignment to date (that was due at 6pm Friday night), I forgot there was life after this week & I hadn’t thought to invite a date to the engagement party. I haven’t done a solo social event in what feels like years & I seem to have forgotten I backpacked through Europe by myself for 3 months. And boy have I missed that!
I ended up talking to a Town Planner about some of the work he’s been doing for local councils & discussing how times have changed between our generations (he was a lot older than me). Then there was the guy that works in Social Housing & the couple who seem more in love than ever, sharing their wedding details with me from three years ago. And there was also L, the guy I met through K when we went on a double date this time last year who will most likely be my partner for the wedding.
I walked out of the place thinking I need to do solo outings more often. It’s like a whole different person comes alive and I kinda miss that side of me!
It’s all the places I’m still yet to see; New York in the fall; the ever growing list of friends on the East Coast of Australia; nights in by the log fire; photographing the world; having a place I call my own; small spaces; Malibu Beach; being back in New Zealand; wandering the unfamiliar streets; country life; summers travelling the coast; giving it all back to the ones that raised me.
As I’m approaching the end of semester, the time spent reading & writing for fun is to a complete minimum. I’m not complaining though, because I’m the crazy one that decided I want to graduate end of this year….instead of June 2014. So amongst all the late nights & zero free time, I thought it is important to acknowledge all the things I’m thankful for such as…
– The amazing view from the new Adiago complex in East Perth. I mean, just look at that view!
– Great friends at work & university who love property just as much as I do
– Those messages from friends saying, “Hey I miss you” and “When am I going to see you next?”
– Flexible work schedules that let me work when it suits me
– The latest City & Colour album playing on repeat; Mr Green’s voice never gets old!
– The sunny Perth winter days where a cardigan is more than enough
– Cleansing the body every night, giving it the rest it deserves overnight & with that comes…
– not being sick in 6+ months! Absolute miracle.
& and you know what? life is not that bad. I may sound like a broken record when I say all I do is work, eat, uni, study and sleep but there’s some goodies in between the routine. There’s not enough time in a short conversation to mention the still river I witnessed several times today or the amazing homemade sponge cake I (over) indulged in or how good my body felt tonight as I sat down to unwind, or how excited I was that a friend trusted my word & believes in me when I suggested trying something new or the fact that life feels pretty damn amazing right now.
